Region 42 Offside and AR Mechanics Workshop
Each season Region 42 offers an Offside and Assistant Referee (AR) Workshop. This is an informal clinic. Attendees don’t need to register in advance and it’s not listed in aysou.org as a clinic or course.
This year, we will offer the course two times. The first session will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. It will run from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The venue is the Dos Vientos Community Center (4801 Borchard Rd, Newbury Park). We will be in one of the community rooms (they are not numbered, but we’ll have signs outside the doors).
The second session will be offered on September 27, 2025, 3:00–5:00 at Pepper Tree Park (near the Snack Shack).
For either session, there is no need to register. Interested parties should just show up.
The purpose of the workshop is to review the Offside Law (Law 11) and Assistant Referee (AR) mechanics (positioning, flag procedures, etc.). The first session is intended for returning referees with experience. The second session is for new and returning referees who have had a few weeks of the season to work on their game. Referees often have questions based on their prior years’ or first few games, and this is a chance to explore those questions and related topics.
After completing the Offside Workshop, and at the discretion of the Referee Staff, we will open up 12U AR slots (which are at Dos Vientos Park) in the Referee Scheduler System to the Regional Referees. This can be helpful for referee parents whose children are playing at Dos Vientos and who would otherwise need to drive over to Pepper Tree Park to referee games.
