American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

AYSO Region 42 – Newbury Park, CA

We Need Volunteers!

Newbury Park AYSO is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are all volunteers. Nationally over 220,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific AYSO experience. We depend on all of you to help fill the hundreds of needed positions that allow our kids to enjoy each new soccer season. Without the help of these countless individuals volunteering their time, there simply is no AYSO Region 42.

AYSO’s volunteer foundation ensures that it’s all about what’s good for kids. It also makes AYSO very affordable. AYSO operates in a business manner, but volunteers ensure its “profits” are happy, healthy kids playing a sport they can enjoy for life.

AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It also has unique administrative and management training. This ensures that each community program:

  • Abides by the AYSO philosophies
  • Offers a great AYSO experience
  • Continues to grow, offering the AYSO opportunity to more children

It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee. But if you’re not able to commit even that much time, there are many small jobs you can help with. Even a couple of hours each season are an important contribution to your team and Region!

Volunteer positions

  1. Head and assistant coach: No experience is required for coaching 12U or younger. Classes for 12U and younger are operated by Region 42. Coaches for 14U and higher must already be certified for 12U. Please check eAYSO for 14U and higher coaching classes.
  2. Team parent: Responsible for coordinating the team banner (if the team wants one), team photos, field monitor/snack shack workers as necessary, coach gifts. and the end-of-season party.
  3. Referees: Two referees per team, only required in 7U and older divisions. Referee classes for 10U and under are operated by Region 42. No experience necessary! For 12U and higher, referees must already be certified for 10U. Please check eAYSO for class listings.
  4. Sponsor: This is a financial commitment only. It can be shared among multiple people if so desired.
  5. Field monitors: One person from the visiting team at each game at Pepper Tree (10U and under) will be equipped with a walkie-talkie, and will keep an eye on things. If anything needs attention (e.g., injury, conflict), they contact a board member to take care of it.
  6. Snack shack: Teams that play at Pepper Tree (10U and under) must work two 2-hour shifts at the snack shack over the course of the season.
  7. Goal setup/tear-down: Teams that play the first or last game of the day at Pepper Tree (10U and under) must set up or tear down the goals for their field. It only takes a couple of people and can be done in about 5 minutes. Goals at Dos Vientos remain in place over the entire season.
  8. Field striping: Teams that play the first game of the day must help re-stripe the field using the supplied equipment. This job can be done in about 5 minutes.
  9. Board members: Board members are responsible for the overall guidance of the region. From time to time, we will have open positions, but even if we don't have anything listed, we can always find something!

I'm convinced. Sign me up!

For board member, coaching, referee, and team parent positions, please register as a volunteer (please log in first, see help page if needed). All applicants must pass a background check performed by Verified Volunteers, an independent third party.

Board members, coaches, referees, and team parents must all take the Safe Haven online course. Coaches and referees are also required to take the CDC Concussion Awareness online course. The concussion course is recommended, but not required, for team parents. Online courses are available at the AYSO Training site. The other jobs do not require any registration or online training, just a willingness to help.

We know your time is valuable, and that there’s hardly ever enough “spare” time to volunteer everywhere you’re needed… that’s why we’re out collecting prizes to say THANK YOU for all your help! For those folks who register as a volunteer by MAY 31, 2017, we will place your name in a drawing for cool prizes, like tickets for four to a Galaxy II game, Lazertag, Harley Camarillo Bowl, a Trader Joe’s gift basket and more. That’s it. Just register as a volunteer, which you know we’d beg you to do anyway. And maybe win some cool stuff in time for summer. So, volunteer early and get a chance to win a prize.  How easy is that?

Thank you

From the bottoms of our hearts, thank you for contributing to the success of Newbury Park AYSO!
