League Playoffs

What are the League Playoffs?

League Playoffs is an Area 10E competition that brings the top league teams from Agoura/Westlake Village/Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Malibu, Simi Valley, Moorpark and Newbury Park together for a tournament.

How are Teams Selected?

Teams are selected based upon standings in each Region’s core program in divisions 10U through 14U. The number of teams is decided by agreement between the Region and Area 10E. Typically, Newbury Park sends 2 teams each in 14U boys and girls, 4 teams each in 12U boys and girls, and 6 teams each in 10U boys and girls. These numbers are subject to change! If two or more teams are tied for the last spot, we typically hold elimination matches where the winners qualify (weather permitting).

To Coach in League Playoffs, Head and Assistant Coaches must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Must have the minimum coaching certification required for that age division; and
  2. Must have a current Volunteer Form on file and have completed Safe Haven and concussion certification in the previous two (2) years.

How long does the League Playoff commitment last?

League playoffs are typically held the first two weekends of December. On the first Saturday, 10U teams will play 3 games in pool play at Conejo Creek South Park in Thousand Oaks. On the second Saturday, 12U and 14U teams will play 3 games in pool play at Conejo Creek or Arroyo Vista in Moorpark. On the following Sunday, qualifying teams, typically the pool winner, will play 1–3 games in knockout play.

If teams make the championship game, they may receive an invitation to the Section 10 Playoffs in Bakersfield on the third weekend of February. Two teams per age/gender group are typically invited from Area 10E.

Practices during the time frame between end of league season and League playoffs are at the coach’s discretion, but will not exceed the allowed practice schedule (max. two 1.5-hour practices per week).

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to the families associated with the tournament play (Region 42 Newbury Park AYSO pays the costs associated with tournament, typically around $200 per team.) Travel costs are paid by the families should the team qualify for Section.
