Regional Commissioner Election

Our Regional Commissioner, Jonathan Geer, has decided to step down, and per AYSO Regional Guidelines we are required to hold an election to fill the position.

The Regional Commissioner acts as the head of Region 42, representing us in dealings with other segments of AYSO including Area E, Section 10, the AYSO National Support and Training Center and the AYSO National Board of Directors.

An eligible individual is an adult who has registered as a volunteer on the Region 42 web site. A job description prepared by AYSO's National Training and Support Center may be downloaded here. This is a generic description, and in Region 42 the Regional Commissioner may have additional responsibilities. Region 42 operates under the standard AYSO Regional Guidelines except as modified by our coaching manual.

The position of Regional Commissioner is filled by an appointment made by the National Board of Directors of AYSO. Generally, the Board will approve a candidate selected by the Region's Board of Directors. The selection process will involve one or more candidates being nominated for consideration by the Regional Board.

The nominating commission, which is comprised of Brenda Bordagaray, Bill Seixas and Gary Skiles, shall submit its recommendation of one or more candidates for the position of Regional Commissioner to the Regional Board.

The Regional Board shall, by a majority vote, nominate a Regional Commissioner and forward such nomination to the Region’s Area Director as directed by National AYSO bylaws.

Interested parties are invited to send a letter of introduction and application to [email protected] by July 26, 2021. Ideally the letter will include personal, professional, and AYSO experience that supports the application. Applicants must currently be registered as an AYSO volunteer and have passed all AYSO background checks.

A simple expression of interest is all that is required. The email should include the individual's name and a mobile phone number. Members of the nominating commission may request the interested individual to be interviewed in person or by telephone and to submit information about his or her candidacy.

It is anticipated that candidates will have the opportunity to address the Board of Directors at the Regional Board meeting expected to be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2020, in the evening. The election itself will be held thereafter. Only members of the Regional Board may vote.

It should be emphasized that once a person is elected by the Regional Board, the Region must submit a completed Appointment Request Package and the person elected must be approved by the Area Director for Area E and the Section Director for Section 10, before being submitted to the AYSO National Board of Directors.
