Frequently Asked Questions
What is AYSO Extra?
AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who want a higher level of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer. Extra teams will be formed by each region in Area 10E and Section 10. The Extra teams will play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 - 14 games) and will have League Cup playoffs at the end of the season in addition to inter-sectional tournaments, Cal Cup (State) in the spring.
What teams will be formed?
It is Region 42 desire to form at least one Extra team for each of Boys and Girls in the U9, U10, U11, U12, and U13, U14 divisions. Players may try out for any team within their age bracket. Players may not play outside their AYSO primary bracket U10, U12, U14.
Who will coach the team?
The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for regular AYSO). Applications to coach an Extra team are due by January 21, 2011 with interviews scheduled for February 2011. Coaches will be announced shortly after interviews are complete.
Will there be professional trainers?
Each team will be able to utilize a professional trainer from an approved list provided by Region 42, and to use the budget they are allotted for the use of trainers. Over 60% of the registration fee will comprise the budget for the trainers.
What is the registration fee?
The registration fee will be approximately $450, which includes the primary season fees, for the Fall season. The reason that this is higher than regular AYSO is to cover the cost of trainers along with a higher quality home / away uniform unique to the EXTRA program. NOTE: we are working to reduce the fees or to include the PSO for 2011.
How long will the season last?
The Fall season will begin practicing in August with regular season and league cup playoffs running through January/February.
Will there be tournaments after the Fall Season?
Yes. Extra teams will be allowed to participate in post-season tournaments and AYSO invitational tournaments which will take place during November through June. The cost to enter into each of these tournaments will run $35 to $45 per player per tournament. These costs are in addition to the Fall program fees.
How do players get chosen for the Extra team?
Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should attend the tryouts at that will be scheduled in the spring. Pre-registration for AYSO players from the 2010 Fall season is not necessary. They just need to show up for the tryouts. They may also complete an player interest form on the website.
Players who did not enroll and play in the Fall 2010 season will need to register at www.EASYO.org and pay a registration fee of $25.00 to cover the cost of insurance through AYSO. These players may also become eligible for post season tournament play.
The selection committee will consist of a coach and professional trainer and region staff members. Players who are selected for the team will be notified the first week of April with registration shortly thereafter. Players selected for a team will received more detailed information at that time.
How many players will be on a team?
This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of players on a team will be as follows:
U9/ U10 - 9 or 10 players
U11/U12 - 12 players
U13/14 - 14 or 15 players
Tryout Forms and Instructions will be posted on the AYSO Region 42 website shortly.
